Bikepacking Resources

Michigan’s premier bikepacking destination

250+ miles of trail crisscrossing the Northern Lower Peninsula — from Lake Huron to the Straits and the central highlands to Lake Michigan.

What is bikepacking?

Riding longer distances and staying overnight along the way — either in hotels with minimal gear, or packing panniers or a trailer to camp out under the stars.

The NLP network

250+ miles of bicycle trails, mostly crushed-limestone rail-trails developed by the State of Michigan and local municipalities — expanding every year. Combine trails with rural roads for endless options.

What you’ll find

Incredible vistas, small-town charm, historic sites, sinkholes, beautiful barns, swimming holes, breweries, wineries, lighthouses, an underwater observatory — and endless dark skies.

Trail surface & bike type: Most NLP trails are hard-packed crushed limestone. A hybrid bike is the best choice, but any bike will do.
