About the Trail
Stretching eight miles north along Lake Huron from Rogers City, the Huron Sunrise is one of Northern Michigan’s most beautiful trails. There are many good trailheads along the lakeshore in town, and the paved trail currently ends at the historic Forty Mile Point Lighthouse.
The trail is rich with amenities — in town, in P.H. Hoeft State Park, and at Forty Mile Point. On the north side of town, the Herman Vogler Conservation Area adds 270 acres of forested meadows with several more miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails. Long term, the goal is to connect southeast through the Rogers City Spur to the North Eastern State Trail.

Downtown park for swimming and beachcombing, with ball diamonds; Harbor View overlooks the world’s largest open-pit limestone quarry and the Port of Calcite.
The city’s most popular beach, picnic facilities, beach volleyball, a band shell, and the Sailors’ Memorial.
A 145-boat marina with a breakwater to stroll and a platform for Rogers City’s famous salmon fishing.
Wraps past Public Works Park and the Trout River, through wildflowers planted by volunteers and Boy Scout nesting boxes.
Follows the Trout River upstream to Highway 23; cross to enter 270 acres of trails centered on the Pond Overlook.
The longest and most scenically striking segment, right along the shore, with a 2005 connector to the park’s amenities.
Mostly along US-23 with short wooded diversions to the historic Forty Mile Point Lighthouse.
